My 45mm f/1.8 got delivered today. On the invoice, under "Country of Manufacture" it states "Japan", but the lens is clearly marked as "Made in China". So which is it? Can you check your Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 to see where it's made?

While I'm at it, is the 12mm f/2 also made in China?

45mm: Both box and lens say China.
    12mm: Japan

That may partly explain why the 12mm is so much more expensive.

I imagine many of the components, including the lens elements, are sourced from multiple countries including Japan, much like my iPad and iPhone.

So I don't think you have a pirated product.

PS: My E-P3 is also made in China.

40-150mm, 14-42mm and E-PL3 all say made in China on box and on the lens/camera.

Looks like it was an invoice error. I thought it might be... but it doesn't hurt to make sure.

Now I have to have that 12mm...

Yup, it is China and the 12 is made in Japan.

It would cost more to make it in Japan, of course, but I can't help wondering why the Oly China model costs $399 and does not include a hood or pouch, like the Japan made Panasonic lenses.

Not all the Panasonic lenses are made in Japan. The 14-42 is made in China, or at least mine is.

Awww, man, how can I whine now?

Seriously, good point. Also, not all Panasonics include hoods. It just seems like Panasonic provides more value on lenses across the board.
