RFL, You are not alone! When he put them side by side there did not seem to be much of a practical difference in the body sizes. It will be interesting to see what the FF Panasonics look like in real life, not that I will ever own one.
It would be nice if some of the tech like backlit buttons make it to the G9 replacement. Would like the liltable rear screen as well but I doubt that will ever happen.
I would like it if Panasonic would make the photo centric camera have a tilt screen like their FF, and put the flippy rear screen on the GH video cameras. but I must be in the minority.

I would agree it certainly looks much chunkier, heavier and more bulky to hold and carryI tried an S1 at a camera shop in Osaka, and it felt ginormous and very heavy in the hand compared with my G9. It reminded me why I switched to m43 for most of my photography. DxoMark just gave the S1R sensor top marks, so it may have a place for those who want FF: Panasonic Lumix DC-S1R sensor review - DxOMark
Zounds, and I always thought(dangerous habit) the G9 was a mu43 camera.It makes the G9 feel m4/3 sized.
Sorry but I have to disagree with better to crop. That's only an advantage of MPs, not FF. The 20mp E-M1 mkII can be cropped more than the 12mp D700 I use to shoot. The only reason for full frame is you can crop better, which helps in action photos. You have a better chance at hitting the target. Low light would be a second reason. Pro action will still be best done by FF. If possible get one of each. LOL
The pixel density may be better, but as one who has use a 300mm f-4 ,it is harder to keep a moving target in the viewfinder. For stationary or slow moving targets you are right.Sorry but I have to disagree with better to crop. That's only an advantage of MPs, not FF. Having recently rerun my own m43 vs FF comparison, I agree entirety with David Thorpe. For nearly all the type of shooting I do, FF would only add weight to my bag and remove money from my bank account!
