I am always trying to explore new photographic ideas, and these monthly postings help me reflect on what I have done in the month, if anything, to take my images to a new place. This month my exploration took me into the world of the projection lens. I always manually adjust aperture and shutter speed settings--100% of the time, no matter what lens I use. With the projection lens, I found it liberating to be freed from decisions about aperture, because my new-found projection lens is wide open (f2) all the time. No decision to make.

The first four images were shot with the Helios 92 f2 projection lens adapted to a Panasonic G7

And one extra, that isn't really a good shot, but it made me happy.

Traveling with my wife in California at present.
Crystal and I visited Pt. Reyes National Seashore, NW of San Francisco. Only about 4000 Tule elk exist and the Tomales Pt area holds good numbers. Crystal spotted three nice bulls and we managed a short stalk and got lucky with the background. In addition, we saw several different species of raptors and a coyote. Beautiful day, and reminds me of parts of Kodiak Island.

The next day we went to Shollenberger Park in Petaluma, where we were staying with my cousin. A fair amount of waterfowl and raptors, but not a lot of light. Here's a Northern Harrier--head-on:

I've seen lots of great shots from the lunar eclipse. This isn't one of them, but it's mine. The Admiral and I were traveling north from Kenai to Birchwood where my folks live in AK, and had a spectacular full moon for most of the trip. I'd planned a stop on the Portage flats in hopes of a blood moon above the glacier-clad peaks at the head of the Placer river, but fog had covered the flats. We stopped in Turnagain Pass and I shot this handheld off the pickup bed.

One from the home-front in Peterson Bay. Entitled "Silverhand Sunrise". Silverhand is our trusty vessel.

The only thing better than one photo of a nice Tule bull elk, is a photo of a pair. This is 1/2000th of the entire population.

Harvey,
RE: the 4th image. Even if your foregrounds were s**t (and they're far from that:)), your backgrounds are so good that I would alway rate them as a winner!

It has been quite a good active month for photography for me. Difficult to limit the number to five this time.

A mix of M43 and FF in this set.

Been a bit stuck for time this month, most photos have been from each end of the day. All taken with the G6 and either the 14-140 mkii or the 30mm macro.

Quite a busy month with most of my photos taken whilst travelling for work. The last one was me playing about with my new speedlight using it off camera for my first time! Busier means more photos which means more choice which means more difficulty choosing! Here are my five.
