Winter photographic doldrums continue for me. I just haven't been that inspired recently. @Mountain@Mountain 's 52 weeks project is about the only thing getting me creative.

Has anyone noticed how cold and gray are most of the shots from us Northern hemisphere dwellers?

TNcasual, I really like your first leaf shot.

I took precious few pictures this month, but I did get a chance to look at files I haven't touch since I took them years ago. So this month has been a PP month for me, and while that has been mostly family pictures there have been a few standouts.

Hope you folk don't mind an unconventional addition.

    Lunar Eclipse in Anttola, Finland

I had double checked all; both batteries full charged and put in the camera (EM1 mk 1) and in the grip, 40 – 150/2.8 Pro (without 1.4 tc) ready in the backbag and the tripod in its own bag. But then – once again – I was surfing in the mu43 forum to midnight before going to bed. I decided not to put the alarm on the phone. If I wake up at the right time, and feel good, I’ll go.

I didn’t wake up, but at seven o’clock my wife pushed me and asked if I was going or not. I jumped up, put clothes on without any breakfast, checked the thermometer – minus 25 centigrade outside – and walked some 300 meters from home to the place I had selected on the map; an open field in the right direction next to a farm road. The sky was clear and my hope was high. And yes, there it was; the red moon not very high!

I put the camera on the tripod, took some pictures, walked some 100 meters and back to keep myself warm, took some more pictures and walked again and so on. After one hour my fingers said it’s time to walk home. During that time the shadow of our planet had almost gone, and the moon was in the sunshine and going behind the trees. I walked back home and thought it was worth the early wake-up in spite of the horrible cold weather even without any good photos, so beautiful it was to see!
At home a warm shower and delicious breakfast were waiting for me; how lucky a man can be!

And I was pleased with some of the pictures, too!

    1. My favourite of the month. Belted Kingfisher. Chased him around quite a bit before getting a decent shot. They must have good eye sight, he wouldn't let me get very close. Oly E-M1 with 300 Pro. 1/250s, ISO-320, F4.

    3. Nuthatch Yoga. Oly E-M1, 40-150 Pro. @150mm, 1/1000s, ISO-1600, f2.8 (probably should have lowered my shutter speed on this one, but the Nuthatch caught me by surprise.)

    4. Obligatory Super Blood Wolf Moon shot. Unfortunately I fell asleep before the eclipse but brave the frigid temps to get a couple quick shots. It was about -1000 celsius out up here in the great white north. At least it was a super clear night. Moon was so bright it looked like a spot light! E-M1 300 Pro, 1/1000s, ISO-200, F8.

    5. Some Sea Gulls trying to keep warm. One in the middle is giving me the stink eye. E-M1 300 Pro. 1/250s, ISO-200, f6.3.

I took a lot of photos in January and picking my five favorites was pretty hard. But I guess I’ll go with these.

I got out a few times in January despite the cold weather. I am probably more proud of that than I am of the actual results.

A couple from a warm early January day at the University of Toronto campus...

A few from an extremely cold walk last weekend. I am more proud of the fact that I got out and shot in -18c weather than I am of the results...

Thanks @rmcnelly@rmcnelly . That one I was just messing about with off camera flash for the first time, it was just a throw away shot but when I processed through my usual mono process it started to look really good. I ended up taking it through some extra processing to get to this and now it is going in for the portrait section of my camera clubs annual competition.
