I had a bad fire in my house. I ended up in ICU with smoke inhalation and burned lungs. When I got out, I needed to take pictures of the upstairs. I got out my GH2 with 14-140mm on it and the stupid OIS switch had broken off. I needed the camera to take pictures for insurance. I took it apart. I was not thinking straight. I figured out how to plug the switch back in but neglected to take the contacts board off first (on pain pills) and the ribbon cable broke. Panasonic told me not to worry about it. Just send it in and they'd replace it for $110 since it was just over 1 year old. I did not hear from them in 2 weeks. I called and they told me they don't do exchanges at the Texas facility even though they'd already charged my credit card the $110 and I had an invoice showing the exchange. I was then told I had to pay $45 for a repair estimate. I paid that. They told me it would cost $270 to repair. I said okay. Then I was called and told that they wouldn't repair it but send me a new one for $770!! Where the hell did this figure come from? I refused and demanded the lens back with no $45 repair estimate and free shipping. I told them it was the worst bait and switch I'd ever seen. I got the lens back. The contacts board is still broken. Panasonic refuses to sell me the part.

If anyone out there has a 14-140mm lens they have dropped and broken or destroyed the lens, please don't throw it away. I would like to buy it (fairly cheap) so I can try to repair my lens. I know it is a long shot but if anyone out there has one, please let me know.

    Thanks

    Patrick

That's terrible Patrick, as if you did have enough to deal with.

You've got to wonder what kind of customer service Panasonic thinks it's giving. FWIW it can be appalling in the UK too (I've had experience).

    A couple of thoughts -

Write to the CEO of Panasonic in the US, tell your story and ask for their intervention. Maybe cc Tokyo (or wherever their Japanase camera division is) too...

Take it to a Panasonic camera dealer (as in a specialist, not Best Buy etc) and see if they can repair it - or are willing to sell you the parts.

I hope you get it fixed and recover fully from your experience soon.

Thanks for the kind thoughts and that is a great suggestion. I think I will write to higher ups. That was just wrong the way I was treated and definitely smells like a bait and switch if I ever heard one and I did!

You can write to complain, but that won't do anything to solve your problem now. Best bet would be to figure out which part it is and order it directly

    1. Check out page 55 of the GH1 service guide to see the part number, same lens. Found it here

2.Go to Pasonic's website Panasonic H-VS014140 - Accessories then click on Visit our "Parts & Accessories Web Site". You should have all the parts there.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

WOW!!! Thank you so much for these links. I had no idea that I could even begin to order parts for this lens after talking to the service center in Texas. Several there told me there was no way I could order parts on my own and I had to buy a new lens from them! I'm having trouble adding more than 1 part at a time but it says that they will be in stock on June 11th so that is fantastic. I will call them Monday to attempt to order what I need. If this is the case, I could fix my lens for less than $75! Thanks again for your help!!!

If this works, I will delete the post.

I ordered the parts today for $60!! Thank you so very much for this information. It saved me a bundle. I looked everywhere and could not find how to order parts for this lens but you knew and that is saying a lot about your character for helping me out. I really, really appreciate it. Have a wonderful day and I will definitely pay it forward!!

Glad I could help. I stumbled upon the part ordering info when I looked for a "lens hood cover" for the 7-14 the previous day.

Good luck with the lens repair and fixing everything up after the unfortunate event!

Lens repaired successfully! Took 3 times. Forgot to plug in tiny ribbon cables in two spots. Works flawlessly once again!

I'm glad you got it back in working condition! :bravo-009:

Lol, thanks carpandean. I guess it's successful because the OP's problem is solved and there's no debate about diffraction/IBIS/sensor size/zooming with your feet, etc...
