Took some pictures of my daughter tonight, and I plopped the SD card in the computer, and took my second 16GB SD card and put it in the camera...except when I did, I heard a crunch...pulled out the card and saw that there had been a split in the card, and when I inserted it, the split was enough to tear a small chunk of the plastic off the card, and, yes, lodge in the SD card slot. Inserting another card is a no go...won't go in. Took me about 20 minutes and some careful fishing, helped by my iPhone flashlight and a long needle, and I eventually maneuvered the chunk out of the camera. New card in...good to go. Needless to say, the old card has been, um, retired. (I tore it in half and ripped out the chips.) :)
