There is a significant growth in the number of Filipinos in our forum (this sort of big sister thread is exploding, relatively ).

As a community, we would like to share with you the beauty of our country. We welcome all expats (we who are a part of the Great Filipino diaspora) who miss the homeland, but we also enthusiastically welcome whoever is interested in what our country has to offer.

As we all say, it's more fun in the Philippines!!

    Enjoy!!

Wonderful pics, mga kabayan! :2thumbs: Makes me homesick all the more viewing these.

Was back home during the month of May and spent half a week at this gorgeous resort called Kahuna in the Northern province of La Union.

Hey all, great scenic images of the Philippines!

This image was taken at my in-laws house in Laur. They prepared a feast which would not be complete without the traditional Lechon! The land, it's people and food, too, are things I've missed so very much since my visit earlier this summer.

Philippines: Palawan Island in early 1980s

I appreciate the warm invitation by Hyubie encouraging anyone with an interest in the Philippines to contribute to the thread.

I hope it will be considered appropriate for me to add some much older film images of Palawan Island from 30 years ago when I lived in the Philippines as a graduate student in anthropology. I wasn't much of a photographer in those days but perhaps the photos have some historical value. I try to make clear in the gallery that these photos do not represent what is typical in the modern day Philippines.

The 18 months I spent on Palawan in 1980-81 was difficult at times but was also the most exciting and fascinating period of my life.

I have a gallery of Palawan at: Palawan Island, Philippines: the world as it was Photo Gallery by Tom Conelly at pbase.com

    A sample photo is below.

    Regards,

    Tom Conelly

You're always welcome, Tom. While that may have been thirty years ago, there's still a fair number of places there that's remained relatively the same as before - some people welcome it, some people don't. I'm in the middle. I love being unplugged from time to time and going back to basics, so to speak.

We're glad it's been memorable for you.

It's indeed great to see those old photos Tom. Glad you experienced something many of us was not even able to do back in the day. Obviously I was still an infant back then hehehe ;) Thanks for sharing.
