Spent an evening with mother Grizzly and her three cubs last week in Yellowstone National Park. Starting to go through 1600+ wildlife photos and thought I would share this uncropped image of them.

These sheep were outside Yellowstone about 5-8 miles north of Gardiner. All with E-Mi II and 300 mm f/4 Pro and MC-14, handheld, April 21 this year.

Making some headway in getting through my Yellowstone N.P. photos. These are from this past Thursday evening when this grizzly family came out of the high country for a look around the sage flats and changed their minds and headed back the way they came from. The cubs were having quite a time getting through/around the sagebrush but managed to stay right on mamma's tail.

The elusive Pica or rock rabbit...they are a member of the rabbit family. They are found in talus slopes of alpine meadows of the Rocky Mountains.

Well that's a cute little chap. Very nice.

Curious re last photo.
Were they all photographing same? With their giant telephotos? They are humungous. I see yours was at 224mm so assume not too far away.

Yes...believe they were all focused on the one I was and, he was maybe 25 yards away from us.
Wait...seriously? All those photographers with enormous telephotos were actually all focused on a pika?! Good grief. Just sit down with a sandwich and they’ll come right up to you! Cheaper than a telephoto.

I'd need an armoured personnel carrier to store and cart them around in.
Replace the other shooting device with one of these behemoths :whistling:

A hide with a difference

I was 110% delighted to get to see wild yellow footed rock wallabies at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The rock pile has been set up as a feeding station, near to buildings at the settlement, and they are given a specially made nutritional supplement treat, which helped them through times of drought. We were asked to stay within the boundary of the shelter we were in (open sided, not a hide), as they're very skittish, and took off anytime someone moved too much.

This marsupial species became threatened a few decades ago, but with careful conservation, and elimination of wild cats, foxes and dogs, are building in numbers again. I switched to the Sigma 56mm f/1.4, as the sun had gone behind the mountains.

A rabbit in the area maybe? Can’t imagine what else will bring out the big lenses!
It is a well known fox den. Photographers from all over come every year especially after this clip. I have some photos of the kit in the clip. It is a Nat'l Pk so the distance requirement. There are plenty of other dens around so there is no point in me joining the crowds. (see my photos back up the page). FYI the foxes use rabbit burrows. You can see a rabbit to the right of the black fox kit.
