Seems like the GX7 has the ability to do ETC in 1080p/60 mode as well as focus peaking. And $100 cheaper. And inbody image stabilization.

So why buy the GH3 when GX7 comes out?

    totally different cameras...

well you can buy the GH3 today

gh3 may feel better with bigger lenses

If you seriously shoot video the GH3 gives you more options

truth is either will make equally great images/movies ...but only if you have the skill to driver them

its not about the gear... its about the talent to use them

    peace

The GH3 is more of an alternative to an SLR, in terms of the way it handles, and the plethora of external controls it offers (which would be impossible to fit on a smaller body). Also it has weather sealing, and a few pro-focused video features like a mic input, and uncompressed HDMI output. I don't doubt that if you were a professional shooting in a demanding environment, and the size of the camera didn't bother you, you'd go for the GH3. The GX7 on the other hand is targeted at demanding hobbyists, or as a second camera for SLR users.

For me it is very likely all the camera I would ever need. My second camera is on my phone.

This is what I love about the OM-D. With no grip it works with small lenses. With the grip/battery it works with a big adapted telephoto.

Which one do you trust more if you want to hire a photographer/videographer?
A pocket size camera or DSLR size camera?

Neither. I'd judge them by the steady cam rig and/or fluid head, their lighting setup, and the lenses that they were using. As well as their prior productions.

Nowadays, with electronics being what they are, they could show up with a Blackmagic compact cinema cam, that fits in their pocket, but it could also just be the sensor back for a rig that's the size of a lawnmower.

Better video. Better ergonomics and more controls. Battery that has approximately 2 times more juice AND the ability to use battery grip.

Yeah, but for your average client they won't know all that.

I would not be surprised if the average client actually knew very little at all. The way to sell the business to new and potentially not very knowledgeable clientele, if you're a a videographer, is by the quality of your prior work

I'm with you on everything but "better video". Obviously we haven't seen a side-by-side comparison, but based on the specs and the hyperbole the GX7 seems to check all the same boxes as the GH3. Beyond the ergonomics and battery life, I suspect the things that will hold the GX7 back for use as a "pro-quality" video rig is the lack of an external mic input. Although I guess it could be argued that a "true" pro would record the audio with a separate device.

Well, the GX7 doesn't have broadcast-quality codecs and the GH3 does. Therefore, the GH3 does video better.

Easy. Hire someone based on merit and previous work not because of the gear he or she posseses. If I were the client I could care less about the gear you use, I care about the result :2thumbs:

Probably the fact that it's announced in the specs.

Depends upon the application. Those big ENG videocams usually have XLR inputs and a headphone jack for monitoring..
