Which combo would you prefer - GX1+17/1.8 or EPL5/14/2.5

If you could get either combo, which would you prefer? I have the opportunity to get either pair about the same price used. Thanks!

Bodies come and go, always choose the better lens - not that there is anything wrong with the 14mm at all, but 17mm is slightly more practical for a single focal length, and 2/3 stop faster doesn't hurt either. Perhaps a 3rd option would be the 17mm 1.8 and an exceptionally inexpensive refurbished e-pm1, and wait for the pm2/pl5 refurbs to arrive at a more ideal price (if you went this route you would probably have enough $ to try both lenses and see which you prefer).

Depends on what you have and what you want.

The EPL5 is very sweet, and you know you prefer Oly ;)

Touch-to-shoot LCD is mighty handy with the WA lenses. Of course, my solution is the EPL5 + 17/1.8, so I went greedy.

Not much of a wide angle shooter. The lens I splurged on is the 75mm 1.8. So my main AF setup would either look like this: GX1 + 17/75 or EPL5 + 14/75. I also have an adapted 25/1.4 C-mount and 50/1.8 which are my tweener lenses in-between those focal lengths.

Kinda leaning towards the EPL5 mostly for the improved low light and IBIS for the 75.

Knowing the OM-D/PM2/PL5 sensor, I know I can hit 3200 ISO easily. So it kinda negates the low light advantage of the 17/1.8 on the GX1, plus I would get the extra stop or two of IBIS for static subjects. Though the GX1 body is super nice to handle!

Black GX1 vs white EPL5. I don't mind white bodies, looks more touristy especially for street shooting!

If your shooting (or more specifically your subjects) will benefit from IBIS I'd always recommend a prime shooter go with Olympus.

Buy them both and sell the GX 1 and 14 mm.

I now have the P25 also. So if it was for me, id take the epl5 with the P14
If you dont have any other prime and you want the combo for streets the O17 is better as a ONE lens combo.

You don't really have a wide there, I would have gone with E-PL5 + 14/2.5.

Don't discount the ability to shoot from your stomach with the tilt out screen on the Oly.Also,Ibis for your new 75 is paramount.

    Buy for lenses, not bodies.

I'd say the 17mm is a more practical single lens focal length, but that the 14mm is generally the better lens IQ-wise: better resolution, astigmatism, & less CA, while having comparable distortion, coma, vignetting, & flare.

So you you don't have any other lens, I'd say the 17mm, but if you have something else already, then definitely go for the 14mm, since the E-PL5 is also a better sensor than the GX1.

You think the 14mm 2.5 is better than the 17mm 1.8?

Staring at both the 17mm 1.8 and E-PL5! Not sure which to keep, the 14 actually works quite well on the PL5, but I find the body somewhat cramped and the LCD is definitely somewhat anemic. The 17 is nice, sharp and has great colors. Not sure why this lens gets a bad rap! The only thing I noticed is this lens was manufactured in China versus the made in Japan 12 and 75. Not that it matters, the highest rated 85mm lens for full frame is the Nikon 85 1.8 G and that's made in China.

    Hmm, decisions!

i want to say the oly body and panny lens, but thats just because i cant stand the way the panny grip on that body feels...

if it works for u, then id get the gx1 and the o17/1.8

Almost tempted to get something like the E-PL2 and wait and see how the EP3 successor pans out.

I love the GX1 but having just bought an E-PM2 on which I use a Panny 14mm Id have to say Olympus E-PL5 for the sensor and low light response (and colours) and the 14mm for its compactness and image quality v price against the apparent image quality v price of the Oly 17mm

I have the e-pm2. Just sold 14mm and am going to get the 17mm 1.8. Should be a great combo but I did like the feel of the x100 when I held it so s version should be even better. However I doubt it will beat the combo I have (am getting!) for autofocus which is pretty important to me.

Like other comments here, would love a PL5 with built in evf and omd 5 axis stabilisation. I would pay a lot for that!!!
