which adapter

    For that lens, it doesn't appear you need a flanged adapter, since there is no aperture pin, but I also don't believe having an adapter with a flange is likely to be an issue with that lens.

    I recently picked up an M42 adapter from this eBay seller. The adapter I received is a "Pixco" brand and it has a shoulder flange which can be removed.

    So the presence of an apature pin requires a flanged adapter, but lenses without pins will still work on a flanged adapter, so buy flanged to cover both bases?

    I'm not certain that's true in all cases. Although I don't have any personal experience, I have heard reports of lenses where the flange got in the way. I probably wouldn't really worry too much about it either way; these adapters are so cheap that if you purchase another lens that doesn't work with the adapter you have, you can just plunk down another ten quid for the right adapter for that lens.
