Am I using incorrect settings? Prior to my GH2 I used a series Panasonic ultra-zoom cameras. I could pinpoint the brightest area in the composition's field, locking it by holding the half shutter button position, then moving lens back to the desired composition. Using this process the aperture remained locked.

Attempting this with the GH2 the exposure doesn't lock, but changes as it follows the path of the pinpoint.

    Thank you.

I'd have to test to make sure, but you may need to use AEL (exposure lock) instead of the half-shutter.

Also, there are settings for AEL/AFL such that you can either have AEL or AFL only, or AEL/AFL together. (AFL - focus lock)

Half-pressing the shutter doesn't lock exposure, only focus. Press the AE Lock button on the back of the camera with your thumb to lock exposure. This information is clearly printed in your camera manual.

Well, in fairness, NOTHING in the GH2 manual is clearly stated.

Thanks Sprinke, I'm there, or at least most of the way. I've listed my settings below. If you see any glaring errors, please let me know.

I discovered the focus mode dial at top left was set on face recognition. This is what I now have set:
    Dial: one point focus.
    Menu- AE/AF
    LOCK HOLD: ON
    PRE AF: OFF
    DIRECT FOCUS AREA: OFF
    FOCUS PRIORITY: OFF
    SHUTTER FOCUS: ON
    HOLD PRESS RELEASE: OFF
    AF+MF: ON
    MF ASSIST: ON
    MANUAL FOCUS GUIDE: ON

So many options to screw-up. Oh, the era of the SRT-101...

I think that is a fair assessment.

Thanks Shnitz. I've listed my current settings above, and the exposure appears to hold now.
