is the name of a nationwide action (in Belgium) to go and clean natural places in our country.
Our local nature protection (of which I am a founding member and administrator) choose a small wetland close to a supermarket with a big parking lot to be cleaned.
On Sunday morning, 9 o'clock, 12 volunteers gathered and started cleaning.
Till noon we had filled 40 sacks with all kind of litter people had just thrown away in nature.
Next to that, we had also recovered 5 supermarket caddies, 4 car wheels complete with tires, a gas bottle, two caddies full of glass bottles and lots more.
All together more than 1 Ton of detritus, just thrown in nature by passers-bye and customers of the supermarket.

    Here's a pictorial impression.

So, ladies and gentlemen, please, respect nature and use the facilities to get rid of what you don't need anymore !

The next generation says : "THANK YOU"

I've heard you Belgians are a messy lot ... walking around in your bright colorful vests, safe, but messy. I like the boots and tires shot.

I think it is. Enforcement is the problem.

We have volunteer clean-up days a few times a year here in California. California municipalities are mandated by law to divert 50% of the waste stream from landfills (recycle). (as do other states)

    Sadly it is not....

It is only law in the lofty and righteous states of the world, mine and yours and a fair few more, but in many parts of the world there is not even the recognition of the problem, let alone a legal system to enforce it!

I have never heard of a 'locally organised clean-up' round these parts!

Nice work! Hopefully everybody can help keep the tacks off the road in Flanders for Sunday's Ronde van Vlaanderen.

From cleaning up some wetland, to Duvel and Orval, it's all possible in a virtual world, and in Belgium.
After this cleaning action, the participants went to a local café, and most of us had some 'Karmeliet'. IMHO one of the best beers in the world.

    Santé,
    Rafael
