This may sound like a silly question but I recently purchased an E-pl3 and have been playing around with some old lenses, a Nikkor 80-200 and a Tokina 90. I feel that if I support the lenses with my hand the weight is OK but I am concerned about putting the camera on a tripod with all of that weight being unsupported and putting too much torque on the body. Are there any guidelines to judge how much lens/weight is too much. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks for your input.

With the Nikkor 80-200mm I would use a tripod collar. I would say the same on a DSLR body. The Tamron 90mm should be fine.
