I just got my (second) 17mm f2.8 for $100 on eBay shipped, after the seller kindly accepted my offer of a little less than what they were asking for. It made me think about the deals I've myself gotten and which I've heard about - it seems like we m4/3 shooters are ususally a pretty sharp lot. What's the best deal you've scored on m4/3 gear?

I always feel like preaching the "buy glass used" sermon to newish photogs who post questions about where to buy, and list the prices they're looking at as original MSRP. Of course places like B&H or Amazon provide pretty good options for most stuff, but there are always outliers who don't go to those places and seem to just want to pay way too much! I know I couldn't afford this hobby/passion if I couldn't get some of the great deals that I do!

Picked up a new Nocticron last year when it was released for $1000. Expensive I know, but I felt it was a bargain compared to what it retailed for.

I feel like most of my deals haven't been barn-burners, but have been pretty good. In addition to the recent 17mm f2.8 addition, I've gotten

    • A GX1 like new from Amazon Warehouse for $240.
    • An Olympus 25mm late 2014 for $279 on eBay (new).
    • A GM5 kit for $540 (although PAL version).

I purchased my E-M5 off craigslist back in March 2014 as part of a kit with the 12-50, FL600R, extra battery and the olympus messenger bag. After selling off the lens and flash, it made for a $200 E-M5 with less than 300 shutter actuations. :2thumbs:

Last year when I bought my E-M1 at the Olympus company store. For about $1500, I got:

    - E-M1 body
    - HLD-7 grip
    - O25/1.8
    - BLN-1 battery (extra)
    - B+W Clear filter
    - Kenko Clear filter
    - Fitbit sports band
    - Olympus branded air blower and micro fiber cloth
    - Sandisk 32GB card
    - Olympus magazine

This was when the E-M1 was still selling everywhere at full MSRP of $1299.
  11. Not an incredible deal, but after using it,I felt like I stole it..the Pan 45-150 from a private seller on Amazon. He knocked a few bucks off after taking a better look and finding some absolutely tiny cosmetic issues that were so small that he couldn't even show them in a pic. $155 included quick shipping..and he got it to me in time for a weekend shoot. I made sure to give him some good feedback. I feel very much like the OP..no way could I afford to get so much for so little in another system. Feeling quite pleased.

When I add up in total how much I've spent on everything, I do wince a little bit. But I've been pretty happy with everything that I've paid.

    GX1 body + 14-42 (open box): $300 USD
    GX7 body (new): $400 USD + shipping
    20mm/1.7 (used): $250 CDN
    14-140mm (used): $350 CDN
    11-22mm (used) + MMF-3: $200 USD + $80 USD
    P100-300: $330 USD

7.5mm/FE was the only thing I paid full price for ($250 at the time), as a gift to myself.

Between all the rest of my legacy lenses and accessories I've probably spent another $500 or so.

It all sounds like quite a bit when I put it down on paper. But certainly cheaper than any other mirrorless system, and I much prefer the experience to a DSLR.

Damn near everything I've bought from Mu-43 members was a great deal and nothing worse than a fair deal, all were positive experiences. Thanks to all of you who sell through here for making that possible.
