What prime(s) to add? 7.5, 15, 25, 56, 75... etc

LOL, I love it! It really does go to show that for many people, zooms are often used at either end of the range.

A few random thoughts - Sounds like the 20mm AF is letting you down in the action shots situations? The 20mm used to be my main prime, but if the slow AF of the 20 is bothering you that much I like the 15+25 combo as a fast replacement. I started with the PL25 and really love its look, but over time I've found the 15 is a better focal length for me indoors/social or when I bring a camera along "just in case." Only you can say if it's too wide for the way you see the world - maybe 17mm would be a better fit? Depending on what/where you're shooting at 12mm, keeping the 12-35 may be sufficient instead of adding a 12mm prime.
Yeah I absolutely love the 20 but I just seem reluctant to use it. Could be it's age? Though some days it's perfectly fine. I love the focal length because it's not as 'regular' as 25mm or 15mm. I call 15 regular because I have this personal stigma against the iPhone focal length. But hey it was chosen for a reason and is versatile- I'm sure I could be happy with it.

It just comes down to I want to shoot a lot more, and after going through my collection I've had this realization that the primes do have this magic to them. I see a GX9/10? camera in the future and want to be able to take a prime or two everywhere. It would be nice if the prime worked well on my G9 as well (no OIS needed but fast AFS/AFC). Could all be GAS though.

I'd have a hard time justifying the 12mm prime, I can get away with a lot with the 12-35 and now even more with the crazy IBIS of G9.

Try thinking sets:
The old 35mm sets were: 2-lens >35 + 85/105 and 3-lens > 28+50+105 or 24+50+135
So the equivalent m4/3 sets would be: 2-lens > 15/17+42/56 and 3-lens > 12/15+25+42/56 or 12+25+75

This may or may not match what and how you shoot.
BTW, I was planning on making the 2-lens, 17 + 45 prime kit.
I have the 17/1.8 for indoor low light, so I only need to add the 45/1.8 to make the 2-lens prime kit.
But in the end, I decided to just use my P-Lumix 12-60 and not deal with the primes, except the 17/1.8 for indoor LOW light.

Ok so after much deliberation I ended up ordering a 15mm 1.7. I thought about it long and hard:
  • It's in between my two most used focal lengths: 12mm and 20mm. Generally the 15mm can work for the subjects/situations that I shoot both of those focal lengths at.
  • Portability and aperture ring. I want to take more photos and sadly don't ever really use my GM5. Having the aperture ring in manual mode would breathe a lot of life back into the GM5 setup.
  • Would also work equally well on my G9
I may add a 25mm later, probably just the 1.7. So I'd have compact primes for usage on smaller bodies, or a prime trio 15/25/42.5 I could take out as an alternative to the zooms. thanks everyone!

I love my combo 7,5/3,5 12/2,0 20/1,7 25/1,7 45/1,8 75/1,8
Even if I hardly bring more than 3 at the same time.
If I should select 2 it have been 20/1,7 and 45/1,8

PL25 and 75 1.8

I don't own the 75 1.8 but I might one day, for now my priority is a zoom like the 50-200 PL.

I don't use primes much but I can say you have to cut my arm off to get me to get rid of the Oly 60mm f2.8 macro.

Yes, for me zooms are mainly a pack of 2 primes without the need to change lenses :)
(except when the range is quite wide, like with my 45-150 Panasonic, which is very useful for taking lanscapes tele shots and get the framing you want).
