I was reading some of the threads and realized that, for me, the PEN F is really quite close to the ideal camera for me. Very similar to the rangefinders I loved and miss. All I would need for it to be perfect is:

    1) weather seal it
    2) remove every video function making it a stills only camera
    3) perhaps a dedicated monochrome only model? Or have a RAW monochrome mode switchable by the front knob?
    4) sell it as a set with the three "classic" primes - 17/1.8, 25/1.8 & 45/1.8 for less than $2000

    Anyone else?

    A G85 Body , with GH5 photo-centric features and a GX8 tilting EVF :)
    Lenses would be the O7-14 f2.8 , P12-35 II or O12-100 f4, Nocticron 42.5, O60mm, P100-400

The only one thing I have currently is the O60mm Macro :p

You've basically described the Nikon DF for me.

A hybrid between the GX85 and the X100. I want Fuji's OVF, fast 35mm pancake, and film simulations, but I want Panasonic's AF, 4K, OIS, controls and UI.

I could live without the screen, I only need a VF.
    No video. Only Aperture mode.
Is not happening. Not in a hundred years.

I'm on the fence. My dream body would be either the Hasselblad X1D or the Fuji GFX50.

In the m43 world? Simply a GX10: exactly like the GX8 - especially as far as the viewfinder is concerned - but with a slightly smaller body, and a tilting rather than a rotating screen. Rotating screens are best for selfies and vlogs, two things I never do. Tilting screens are better for photography, and can also be used in most video shots.

    I have modest wants:
EVF (maybe tilt), tilt screen (maybe 2-way like that recent Fuji), silent shutter, touch screen. No SS, good AF, focus peaking. Pretty sure there are one or two out there already... :rolleyes-38:

I really want a theoretical GX9. GX8 form factor, tilting evf, weather sealing, tilting LCD, but with the sensor from the GH5, and shutter/stabilization expected with the GH5 or of at least GX85 quality.

I don't mind if the video functions are there as long as I can ignore them most of the the time Otherwise, my wishes are capabilities. Essentially noiseless high ISO (100000-500000) that doesn't affect the low ISO results, 20 or so stops of DR, top SS of 1/50000, 10 stops of IBIS etc. You get the idea. Why did I pick these numbers? I had to pick some numbers so I shot a bit high. You can put that in any of the smaller mirrorless bodies (EM5 mk XX, Pen F, Fuji X-T10, etc.) and I'll be there with $1000-$1500. Of course, I show up with that money for the current offerings so I'm a cheap date.

How about an irrevocable menu item that removes all the video functions which are pretty much software only anyway - then perhaps people will stop complaining about extra functions that don't really cost anything. Add to that the same ability for me to remove the photo functions that you may use & love that I find completely pointless ;)

    In reality, for me:
    1) 20 Stops dynamic range
    2) Better high ISO

After that, I pretty much have everything I need already.

    Fanciful:

Body: Size of the Pen F, EVF from Leica SL in center, ISO, Shutter, Aperture wheels, Multi-angle LCD, touchcreen with touch focus point moving, film emulation wheel, several function buttons.

Sensor: Full Frame, variable aspect, Oly 5axis IBIS

Mount: Adjustable - Flange distance would be short so that full electronic AF adapters could be created for many different lens mounts. Sensor could be programmed to expose the image circle best suited for the lens (Full Frame, APS, MFT,).

Extras: Fuji film emulation, or open source film simulation, Oly Live Composite/Bulb/Time, really good focus peaking

I am sure there is more.

    Reality:

    Pen F with weathersealing.

Back to roots photo-centric PEN. Range-finder like EVF, fixed LCD with off-switch, IBIS; dedicated aperture, shutter speed and ISO dials; no video, no "art" modes, no scn modes, no built in flash, no other ballast. Rainproof. And set of compact, opticaly corrected (unlike 17/1.8 barrel) and rainproof primes with mechanical MF (12/2 & 17/1.8 style): 10/1.7, 16/1.7, 42/1.7. All of them as affordable as can be.
