My µ43 is not my primary system therefore my investment isn’t over the top. I have a GF1 with a 20 mm F/1.8 and a 14 - 45 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 lenses. Total cost was about $1400 Canadian. The funny thing about the cost is what I call the justifiable cost. With the GF1 with a 20 mm combination I have taken thousands of image driving the cost per frame to about 14¢. On the other hand I have take only 10 frames with the 14 - 45 mm so the cost per frame is about $40. It's not that it is a bad lens I just don't use it often. So in a sense the cheapest lens in my kit is the most expensive.

You forgot the cost of required distractor, i.e. a gift to the wife to make your new, shiny 45/1.8 less noticeable . But, I guess that goes under acquisition cost.
I'm not even close to being married, but I'd like to think the pics of her and the kids that you'd get out of the 45 would more than justify its price.

I'm pretty frugal so here's what I've spent thus far:

E-PL1 Kit from Cameta Refurbished: $230
Used Canon Deluxe Bag from CL: $25
16gb and 8gb SDHC cards: $22
Minolta to MD adapter: $25
Velbon VE3 Tripod from a yard sale: $8
Minolta 50mm f1.7 from thrift shop: $5
Zykkor 28mm 2.8 Macro from thrift shop (MD mount): $10
Vivitar 80-200mm f4.5 from thrift shop (MD Mount): $9
2x Teleconverter (MD mount) from thrift shop: $5
Lens Pen: $10
40.5mm ND Filter: $18
40.5mm Lens Hood: $4
Misc 52/55mm filters from thrift shop: $5
Small Carryaround bag from thrift shop: $1

All said and done I've spent about...$380. However that is going to double or triple once my income taxes finally come in.

I'd say somewhere between $15,000-$20,000. I don't have a current figure, but every so often I have to tally up for my commercial insurance. Much of the gear I use was in use before Micro Four-Thirds existed, but is still in use with the Micro Four-Thirds system.

*EDIT: I just realized this is an old thread which I had responded to before. I said about $20,000 then, which is probably the more accurate number.

Gf3, GH1 & 2, 14-140, 14-42x, 20/1.7, 100-300 should be about $4000-. A lot of the aux stuff is multi-use, not m43 specific, like memory cards, tripods, monopods, lighting, portable hard drives etc. Then there's 200+ legacy lenses which can all be used on m43.

Cost of importing added up

First shipment from the US

Used GFI plus 14-45mm lens
Extra battery
Screen guards
Acratech universal mounting plate

Cost of the gear: $487.34

plus shipping $ $98.75

Total $586.09

Charge from Post Office/Customs was minimal -- less than US $4.

Second shipment from the US

46mm Screw-In Folding Rubber Lens Hood $ 12.95
46mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter, used $19.00
Lumix 20mm f/1.7 Aspheric G- Series Lens $339.95
Microfiber Cleaning Cloth, 18% Gray (7 x 7.9") $ 5.59
RS-P1II Wired Remote Switch for Panasonic $17.50

Sub Total $394.99
Shipping $60.00

Total $454.99

Customs circa $124, though I was told that if I'd been willing to go to Managua and spend half a day chasing around, I could have avoided the payment, but the shipment had a different weight listed than the box weight at the customs house, so they had to have the original invoice to make sure I was getting what I ordered.

I think cameras can be imported duty free for personal use, but there's a $500 limit per six month period for imports on a residency card, so that may have been also part of what bit me. B&H only ships through the USPS/Nicaraguan Correos which actually works well most of the time except when there's a discrepancy between box weight and invoice declared weight.

Next import will be six months after the last shipment, just because.

I've brought small point & shoots in for friends when I was back in the US -- they paid my costs.

Hehe... in time, in time. The OM-D line is definitely one which suits my purposes so I will certainly end up with one. I'm sure it'll be the E-M5 as I simply can't see myself waiting long enough for any new models to pop up, lol.
