Enjoyed listening to Eric Hilton’s album last night while looking through some of my favourite photo books. When this world gets back to normal one of my first trips will be to Varanasi. I will love spending a few weeks photographing the amazing people and places.
Word is spreading that Jon Hassell has died. One of the pioneers of ambient music, Dream Theory in Malaya is my favourite album of his, and one of my favourite albums of the 80s, and helped me to start to better appreciate atmosphere as a quality in music. Growing up as a teenager mostly listening to music based around guitars and vocals, especially grunge and post-grunge, Hassell's music was not only an important gateway for me into ambient and drone music but maybe also modern classical and jazz in a weird way. It's a unique experience even to this day. RIP to a pioneer.
