And I mean this literally. A month ago this was a 2 lane graveled road.

On July 15, 2021, 5 to 6 inches of rain fell in a canyon area 12 to 15 miles from the train tracks. This are had probably only seen half that much moisture in the previous year. The rain drops turned into an angry mob and stormed their way down stream. By the time the wet mob hit the tracks it was probably 1/4 mile wide and many feet deep. The tracks act like a dam across the valley, and the angry wet mob doesn't like dams. A north bound train going 60 mph hit the water and the locomotives and several cars carriers tipped over. A few more cars carriers were derailed, but from their condition, they aren't in any better shape. The transported autos all seem to be Toyota trucks and SUV's.

This photo shows the repaired track, and above the track on the right side is Broze Knoll, the orange hill with the 45° face.

And this was taken August 8, 2021. This is about 400' higher in elevation and 5.5 miles away from the tracks. All of the flood waters came through here.

And more of Blawn Wash, which is the flood channel all the water came down.

Up this valley was where it all started.

This wash has flooded before, these are the remains of a water tank that were swept down stream before this last flood (several new remains have now been added to the wash). Taken May 13, 2018.

And a photo of the wreck about 4 miles away, notice how flat the terrain is.

And this is how it all relates on the Lightroom Map. The train wreck is 30, the locomotives were taken to 14, which is Lund. Blawn Wash and Broze Knoll are 6 and 4. And 29 and 22 are wild horses.

Normally this is beautiful Pinto, a few mud baths have changed it's appearance.

Cool story and photos! As wide and flat as the landscape looks, it must have been a hell of a lot of water to create that flood front!

Thanks. The town immediately north of me is built on similar terrain and was badly flooded 10 days ago. Mother Nature can be a real bitch.

Harvey, we ignore Mother Nature at our absolute peril. Fukushima anyone? Rule number one - never build a nuclear reactor on a convenient flood plain ...

Wonderful series of photos.
