Well after much frustration, research, discussion and even more frustration I finally bought a telephoto lens. The Panasonic 100-300. I also ordered the tripod collar. Hope it was the right one. Too late now. :)

I will post when I get it and have a chance to play with it.

Thanks to all who put up with me while I asked all of the questions.

I think you will really enjoy that lens. I know I do! Would love to see some shots!

Interested to see the results as well.

I am considering trading my full frame DSLR kit in and getting an OMD+100-300 for Airshows but want to know if the AF will cope with fast jet?

Look forwards to seeing your images.

Very good lens but unfortunately is the only choice for micro... the Oly's 75-300 are a mockery.

I bought the tripod ring and am currently practicing with it. So far I am pleased.

I hate to respond to trolling, but i gotta stick up for this much maligned lens.

A mockery? The 75-300 is smaller, lighter, and has more range and at least slightly better image quality. It's expensive, but it's a great lens.

I think super teles, much like wide angle, are fairly competitive, more so now that Oly has brought down its price.

Where did you find the tripod collar?

Can you provide a pic of what the ring looks like on the lens? I really like this lens, but have been considering some kind of solution for better balanced tripod mounting.

    It's f6.7! It's absurd to make a f6.7 lens in 2013!
I love zuiko lenses in general but not this, I'm sorry.

One stop won't make much difference if the photographer intends to shoot in broad daylight. Either lens, I'll look to get the long shots while the light is right. Once the light gets low, I'm mounting a faster lens.

Every couple months or so, I consider selling my tele-zoom.

Every couple months or so, I rediscover how useful a tele-zoom can be.

From the info in THIS thread. I really like it. Seemed pretty cheap too. I got the arca compatible version.
