    Weekly Challenge #8: Long Exposure

This week's topic is one I am not very experienced with. I like to look at pictures taken with a long/bulb exposure, but more then often have no creative ideas on how to use this "technic".

Allowed for this challenge is any picture which clearly shows that a long exposure was at play. This could range from star trails, light trails or daylight pictures taken with an ND filter. Of course, any other cool idea using bulb exposure, I am not creative enough to think off, is allowed too. :)

Here are two examples from me:

This one is from the Munich's '72 Olympic tower.

Long exposure is really the cause for the image's look and not the beverage traditionally served at the pictured Oktoberfest. :)

    Weekly Challenge Rules

The challenge will be open from Friday through Wednesday, with a winner announced on Thursday (slowly sneaking back to schedule...). Everyone gets to submit 2 photos shot with an m4/3 camera in line with the chosen theme. The winner of the previous challenge gets to choose the new theme (topics can be anything under the sun) and serves as the judge for his/her weekly challenge.

For obvious purposes, the judge is disqualified from participating in his/her own weekly challenge. Instead, he/she should post up to 2 photos as examples to start out the challenge. Should the winner not be able to commit to being the next judge, the responsibility is passed on to the runner-up.

Contests are scheduled to open on Wednesday of each week. On Tuesday of the following week, the judge will name a blue ribbon winner, a runner-up, and 1 honorable mention. As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We may not all agree with the chosen winners; the judge is encouraged (but not required) to state what criteria he used to decide on a winner.

To make sure we don't break any Mu43 rules/regulations, by participating in this thread you are allowing the judge to repost your image for the sole purpose of announcing the winners for the Weekly Challenge.

elavon: currently you seem to be winning this contest...

No other entries in order to make this a bit more challenging?

nothing that fits the category yet (that's worth showing). I'm going to try soon though--as soon as I can figure out what I did with my shutter cable.

LOL ... can I post something that's not M43

In all seriousness, I think it would be better if you put "Long Exposure" as a title. Just a thought :)

I am glad we had some last minute participants with nice images in this challenge. So, let's wrap it up.

    First, the honorable mention: zethanos

In this picture I really like the color on the water, which gives the picture an interesting look. It goes really well with the colorful reflections from the opposite shore. I would have loved the image even more without the thing (fence pillar?) on the left. Although, I would have loved to see a portrait orientated version of it with the tops of the sky scrapers not cut.

Here is the runner-up: Timos L

I like the image because of the nicely lit old boat and the smooth water surface. Putting the horizon a bit off-center would probably even add to the image - showing more of the vast night sky.

    And the winner: elavon

What made this picture the winner for me is the contrast between the suburb and the skyline of the city center (or downtown neighborhood). This effect is increased by the fog, almost blocking out the lower parts of the skyscrapers. The picture also has a certain feel to it (at least for me) and reminds me of hot and humid summer nights. When looking at the picture, I can almost hear an a/c rattling about somewhere in a distance and imagine, me sitting with a cool drink chatting with friends on a roof-top.

I love the shots in this contest. They've inspired me to try something pretty new (and to stop neglecting my tripod).

quatchi thank you for choosing my photo out of the great entries in this challenge.
I liked all the other entries and I hope I won, not because i was the sole contender for a long time.

Since we are a bit late with the next challenge i have already chosen and published the thread:
