It's always a challenge to capture light after dark. Let's see what you guys manage to do with that much less to work with.

2 examples from my collections but would love to see all sorts of interpretations!

    Weekly Challenge Rules

The challenge will be open from Wednesday through Monday, with a winner announced on Tuesday. Everyone gets to submit 2 photos shot with an m4/3 camera in line with the chosen theme. The winner of the previous challenge gets to choose the new theme (topics can be anything under the sun) and serves as the judge for his/her weekly challenge.

For obvious purposes, the judge is disqualified from participating in his/her own weekly challenge. Instead, he/she should post up to 2 photos as examples to start out the challenge. Should the winner not be able to commit to being the next judge, the responsibility is passed on to the runner-up.

Contests are scheduled to open on Wednesday of each week. On Tuesday of the following week, the judge will name a blue ribbon winner, a runner-up, and 1 honorable mention. As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We may not all agree with the chosen winners; the judge is encouraged (but not required) to state what criteria he used to decide on a winner.

To make sure we don't break any Mu43 rules/regulations, by participating in this thread you are allowing the judge to repost your image for the sole purpose of announcing the winners for the Weekly Challenge.

I'm not entirely sure i understand the purpose of these "challenges," but here is a contribution. Taken with the OM-D E-M5, Panny 14-140 (at 54mm and f/5.6) at 1/125 and ISO2000, and processed with PS/CS6 and Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Thanks to everyone who entered this week. Lots of neat interpretations of the theme and some excellent demonstration of technical skills!

    Honorable mention: jjviegas

Effective composition and colors. A 'classic' night scene and just executed really well.

    Runner-up: foxtail1

I find this to be a very interesting scene. Lots of little details to take in. I also like the silhouetting of the family (well, all the faces are obscured in this shot I suppose). Afterall, this could be a carnival scene anywhere in North America. Easy to trigger that sense of nostalgia or identifying with the shot.

    Winner: acercanto

While the composition isn't working completely for me with the partially included trees on each side (I would go with a tighter crop personally), I just love the surreal light effect in this shot. I think it takes some great imagination to turn a 15 second exposure in the dark into this wonderful backlit/pseudo sunrise effect. Very cool.

Thanks, Phrenic! I've always liked that shot for the same reasons. (The carnival should be back in that small town in a week or two, and I'm going to be there again and pay the $3.)
