Anyone tried one of these on a 12-40mm lens?

I know I'd probably get some smearing of details in the corners, but it'd also convert the lens to a 9.6mm on wide end.

Take a look at this guy's testing:

Comparison of Panasonic wide angle lenses with add-on converters

He didn't add the WCON to the 12-40, but he tried it on the 14-140.

Supposedly the results with the 14-140 are not great, somewhat smeary at the wide end and unusably glowy and soft at the long end. I would anticipate no better, and potentially even worse, results with the 12-40, since it's already wider, and has a fair bit of distortion that needs correction, so I don't know how it would interact with the distortion added by the WCON. So for all except the ultrawide scenarios, you'd be juggling installing the WCON on and off, likely making it more frustrating than just carrying a separate lens in the first place.

    guess?
the 9-18 is practically the same size as the WCON so why even bother?

Well, the WCON is about 10x cheaper, so there's that...

well, 5x more .... maybe. My 9-18 was < $400. If you can afford a 12-40 why cripple it with an adapter not even designed for it? Put the pesos toward the 9-18 IMHO.

correct (sort of, it'd be more like 20x cheaper)...I could get it for less than $20 shipped to my door. That said, the serious downgrade in IQ would be an issue for me.
