Some of you may recall my thread back in April where I got pounded by Lake Erie waves to test out the weather seal on my brand-new E-M5.

Well, waves were up a couple days ago so I did it again. What I lack in photographic skills I make up for in idiocy.

Camera and photographer survive another soggy outing.

  2. I would say that you have both idiocy and photographic skills in equal amounts . Those were some amazing images.

Can't argue with the EM5's superiority in this case.

    Awesome series!

Nice series - that last one is phenomenal - suitable for framing for sure.

Incredibly brave, and incredible images! Love the 9th one (I think it's the 9th), and the last one! :2thumbs:

Good stuff Matt. Hey, let us know if the guts on your OM-D rot out (a better test would have been a great ocean, or even a minor ocean rather than a Great Lake). Be that as it may, I think in this particular case, enthusiasm would be a better word choice than idiocy.

My favs are the first, last and one of the ones in the middle somewhere.

    These shots are great.

I've noted that some of my best shots are under the worst circumstances (least ideal).

Being in a tough place at a difficult time seems to give the best results.

Problem is I'm not a morning person... Don't like driving down a country road after dark... don't care to get wet... or cold... I least I have a cat!

And, wow, even though the camera is rated for it, I would have a hard time subjecting it to the water that it was meant to swim in.

I think I'll avoid salt water if I can, although I think the camera would be fine as long as it doesn't get as drenched as I let it get here. This was excessive. I was more concerned about the grit than the water- Lake Erie sand is not clean and fine like ocean beach sand. It is more like sharp gravel, and these waves throw it around. Much of the particulate matter you see in the air here is rocky grit, not water drops.

The shots look a bit like a movie poster.

Hope the camera and lens got a good thorough clean afterwards, salt can do horrible things.

    They're awesome.
Photos like that justify getting the OM-D, just for that !

I did some split toning on most of these (orange/bluey-purple), so yup- very movie posterish. Essentially some of them came out like that on their own so I wanted the others to match. Several times while post processing I thought, "This looks just like GI JOE! Except it's WATER vs. CONCRETE!" There's a movie there somewhere.

Oh- and no salt. Lake Erie.

You put weather sealing in good use! Great shots.

I know I considered the weather sealing when I bought my OM-D and the 12-50 zoom but a weather sealed camera and lens is only half of what I need to try that. The other half is a weather sealed human body :)

Some great shots there. I won't try and compete :)
