My copy arrived an hour before sunset on a dark and miserable day so I headed out into the village to give it a test. Both wide open because, you know, God wouldn't have invented f/0.95 if he didn't want us to shoot with it.

Of all the Voigts (10.5, 17.5, and 42,5), this is still my favourite by far!

This was one from my travels last year - Atlanta by Dawn, taken from the Sheraton downtown.

Just lately I completed my Voigtlander collection, adding the 17.5 and the 42.5. I shot with the former before dawn at the Yavapai County Courthouse, Prescott, AZ, while the Christmas lights were still up. The third picture is a stopped down, multi-image panorama.

Well, because I do this with every wide-ish lens I get, here's some samples of this one used on a reversal adapter, yeilding ~3:1 macro. Aperture set to f/5.6 and 1:1 center crops provided for each shot.

It's easily the best lens I've ever tried this with, the contrast, resolving power and lack of CA are superb, the flatness of the focal plane is... good enough for many purposes. ;)

Is this lens softer than CV 25mm f/0.95, when both are used at wide open and closest focusing distance? Can it resolve eyebrow hairs?

I have the CV 25mm f/0.95 and consider its sharpness acceptable at wide open (it was enough to resolve eyebrow hairs of my 5yo).

I love the rendering of my CV 25mm and assume the 17.5mm would rendering similarly?

Thank you in advance.

I don't own the 25mm, but here's a shot wide open at MFD, a pile of threads left over from "summerizing" a couple of t-shirts:

The second is a 1:1 center crop, where you can see that the (few) in-focus areas resolve the individual fibers fairly well.
