The closest focus distant is about 2 inches from the tip of the lens to the center of the Dime. It was shoot at f16. The DOF is really shallow in this distance. If I use the 3:2 ratio the dime should fit nicely.
eye - I took it myself with the LCD flip forward, so it is not the best shot.

Spring is coming in NY and I took some Crocus flowers with this lens. I believe it is shot wide open at f2.8
2nd pic is the 100% crop of the first one.

I got this lens today (Nikon F mount)! Here are a couple of quick pics. This lens is also great as a short tele. Love it!

This is an excellent lens, even when not using it as a macro as you've shown. It's quite large though, and I believe the full rotation of the focus ring from infinity down to 1:1 is about 630 degrees! Mine has a Canon FD breech-lock mount.

Recently posted in Flowers, at f2.8 I think.

More fun with the lens. I think this was shot at very near 1:1.

Looks like a sweet lens. I just bought one as a birthday present to myself off ebay today. Lets hope it's a good copy! I can't wait to use it!

Will this type of lens fit an Olympus PEN series camera? I am just beginning to get into photography and would love to pick up one of these...

Thanks!

Vivitar 55mm 2.8 macro MD mount on EPL-1

Just acquired this lens at the weekend and here are a few trial shots. Still finding my way on macro photography.

One of my problems is getting sharp images with a shallow depth of field. These shots are all hand-held as I dislike using a tripod which I find impracticle especially when doing a 1:1 close-up.

Any suggestion how to achieve sharp images? Would a monopod be suitable for macro work in the field?

A tripod and a focussing rail might help. When you use such a setup for 1:1 the focussing rail moves camera and lens together which helps to focus properly. An bellows with integrated focussing rail like e.g. Novoflex used to make, may also be a good solution for life-size shooting.

Thanks, Addieleman. I will keep your recommendation in mind.

Anyone with experience with a monopod?
