Found this at the Goodwill over the weekend, adapter just arrived today. Low-light test shot on Olympus E-P2, ISO 400, f4. Pentax screw mount (M42).

Believe this lens was made by Cosina, not sure if it can be traced back to the Zeiss design. Markings: Vivitar 55 MM 1:1.4 AUTO VMC NO. 94401630

OMG... an Empire turntable! :bravo-009: Brings back some marvelous memories. I dearly loved mine until it disappeared during a cross-country move along with a large portion of my album collection and a couple of Macintosh power amps -- all rare classics today.

No matter though. Now I spend all my spare cash on photo stuff instead of high-end audio gear.

Heh, finding vintage audio at thrift stores and on CL, fixing and selling the stuff I don't want, is how I paid for my Oly. That Empire was pretty ugly when I got it (free with a McIntosh MAC-1700 receiver), but it's looking good now, definitely a keeper, and will last my lifetime, at least, playing my 600+ thrift store Jazz LPs.

That serie number 94491630....first 9 there shows that you were right...it's cosinas. After that I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe that the second number (4) indicates the production year...so maybe 1974 or 1984. VMC someway tells on the other hand, that this is not any kind of very old lens. Ok, anyway I'm guessing the current relationship between Cosina and Zeiss did not yet exist at those days.

Found some macro rings today for Pentax screw mount, which this lens has. Playing around with the shortest one - 11mm.

I'm pretty sure this lens was released in the late '70's (77~79) and was not sold with any of the Vivitar bodies of the time.

Not much info on this lens to be found, but ran across this test. Not sure if these numbers are good, bad or mediocre...
