It's absolutely remarkable how good the end result is. One of the recommended videos is the colorization of that same photo which is likewise impressive although I'm not generally a fan of colorization.

Since that image was first captured, millions upon millions of dollars have spent to further improve the technology for taking photos of cats. Now almost everyone carries a cat image capture device in their pockets.
