I recently got an VF2 to use in combination with my EPL1.

When I use the VF2, I see a lot of flickering lines and staircasing.
Is this normal? I was under the assumption that the VF2 was very sharp...

Are you using it in good or in dim light? The display has to gain up a lot in dim light, increasing noise quite a bit. In daylight it should be tack sharp however.

At the risk of teaching granny to suck, is the diopter adjusted correctly? If I recall, an out-of-adjustment sight can give all sorts of artifacts on this finder.

Yep, tried to adjust it to the left and right. Flickering, moire and staircasing remains.

When I look at a picture in the VF, then indeed its is razorsharp. But not when shooting :-(

Ok, that is really weird. If you switch to LCD, does that look the same?

LCD looks fine. Only very minor staircasing

My VF-2 does the exact same thing - big difference between the way it displays the picture at shooting time vs review. I always thought I was expecting too much.

It seems that it's mostly horizontal lines that show a lot of artifacts as the camera moves slightly. I compared to the EVF in the Fuji X100 and it shows some of these artifacts as well but not quite as strong.

Ok, so it is normal to see staircasing and moire?

Then maybe my expectations were to high too...

Doesn't sound normal to me - if I had to describe my own VF-2 in those terms it would have been sent back for a refund..... as with any EVF, it's not pin sharp, but I wouldn't say my own flickers, staircases or shows moire (unless the lighting level is very, very low).

Strange, doesn't sound normal to me either. My eyes are relatively sensitive (I can notice 60Hz flickering on old crt monitors easily).

Only time I notice performance issues on my VF2 is at low light levels. Daytime it works fine.
