Hi everyone,
Is there amy one out here using the ep1 with 20mm panny lens and Vf-1? Can you switch off the LCD on the camera? How is is like looking through the viewfinder since it's made for the 17mm? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!!

I used the VF-1 on an E-P1 with 20mm and it was great (until I came upon an E-p2 with VF-2).

For me the VF-1 frame lines lined up very well with the 20mm, better than with the 17mm IMO. The LCD cannot be turned off as the VF-1 doesn't have any electronic connection to the camera.

With the center focus point selected it was easy for me to focus on the center and reframe if necessary.

Actually, you can turn off the LCD screen : section B of the menu, you can attribute the "Backlit off" function to the Fn button.

There's a few things to make the camera work with the finder.... better...
Set the AEL/AF button to AF only
Set "Lens Reset" to no
Set the LCD screen to Fn button

Now when you use the finder, hit the Fn button to toggle the screen on/off
The lens reset will not change your focus distance so...
Use the AEL/AF button to focus at your preferred distance
the camera will stay at that distance even if powered off

I find lowering the AF target 1 click puts the target center in the finder so...
In a pinch, you use the AF to focus lock thru the finder and your in...
Just remember that the camera stays at that distance until you refocus...
This setup is great for power management and street work...

If you get the electronic finder.... Well most of what I just posted is trash....
The power management won't work...
That sucks....
