The reviews and comments I have read say that the 300 retains its remarkable sharpness with the teleconverter. I am not finding this to be true, there is some definite softness and fringing when at 100%
Has anyone else tried this same combination? I am trying to figure out whether I have a bad copy of the teleconverter (the lens is superb) or whether my expectations are too high.
    I a shooting with the e-m1.

I leave the 1.4 on because my tests showed no degradation in sharpness. I would return the 1.4 if you can for another try. I only remove it when I think that 420mm will constrain the field of view for what I am photographing. Sometimes I can't move farther away and I need that little extra field of view. However, I have not found any need to remove due to IQ issues.

I really appreciate the input. One more check to see that it is not operator error, and if not, back it goes for a replacement
