if I use an old Minolta 50mm lens with adapter I know I need to set it to shoot without lens but do I also need to set the focal length? and if yes do I use the true focal length as marked on the lens or do I use its M 4/3 equivalent 100mm

Setting the focal length is needed for the IBIS system to work correctly... you need to set to the actual focal length, i.e. 50mm
