Updating Panasonic GF3 firmware - card write protected error

    There is a small physical switch on the card to make it read-only - did you check that?

    Turns out that you do need an external card reader to update Panasonic camera firmware - you cannot put the firmware update on the card in camera, unlike Sony, Olympus etc.

    "Copy the .bin file to the root directory of the SD card - next to the DCIM, MISC and PRIVATE folders. You will need to use a memory card reader for this."

    So anyway, I bought one for £5 and it's now sorted - the reader is useful to have anyway as it's faster than using the camera to upload to pc and saves batteries.

    The 45-200 update to version 1.3 makes the image much more stable on the lcd screen when using the telephoto end of the lens, so worth doing for that alone.
