Exactly!
I'm really trying to get a feel from the more informed when the possible consumer Olympus 100-400 might appear? I'm closely looking at the Panasonic 100-400, but would wait a bit longer if I was relatively confident that there will be a consumer Olympus rival lens. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
They planned to release three lenses per year. 12-45mm Pro done. Tele-zooms should come next, but who knows. 150-400mm Pro has been post-poned pretty much already.

Seems like a lot of us are waiting for it.
Now it's up to Olympus to decide whether to give the pro's the 150-400 or to give the average but by far more numerous average guy the 100-400.
I would hope that because the Olympics are now not on, that they will make the 100-400 a priority.

Olympus has nothing to do with the Olympics. Their equipment can’t even officially be in the formal venues. It’s a non-issue for non-official sponsors. In fact, it’s best not to even hint at being associated because it only pulls up the outsider, poor cousin status.

I was at the 2010 Olympics and the non-sponsored gear had to black tape over logos, and shooters had to wear the other brand’s vests. And Olympus (and Fuji, except their TV gear) had no presence. Official sponsors take up 100% of the marketing space. Every billboard, vantage point, wall, screen, t-shirt, etc.

I don’t know why people keep bringing it up as marketing. Unless your brand is an official sponsor, there is no gain from spending anything on marketing anywhere bracketing the event.

I'm not sure where people get the idea that this lens will be huge.

It is f/5.0 vs f/4.0 (PL) and non-Pro (PL is considered Pro).

Expensive maybe but compared to what. Again it is slower and non-Pro so it hints at lower price than the PL.

Price: It should be positioned below their pro tele zoom, the 40-150mm f/2.8 (ca. USD 1200). If you take into account the relative age of that lens, I'd expect the new one to be USD 900-1400 max.

Size: It should be between the Pana 100-300mm and the Pana 100-400mm, given the max aperture and focal length.

Weight: It should be lighter than the Pana 100-400mm, given that that lens uses a lot of metal and the the upcoming Oly 100-400mm is non-pro, meaning it should use more plastic. The Pana is 985g / 2.17 lb. I hope the Oly will be in the 600-800g range.

I have the Pana 100-300 V1 which is ok for what it is, and hopefully Olympus will release a lens with specs nearer to the P/L 100-400mm, rather than specs like the 100-300 or their own 75-300mm. One is $550 and the other is $1,500, but the 100-400mm has many improvements including: better OIS, better build and weather sealing, better quality optics with more special glass, faster dual action motor to drive the AF, a AF/MF and lens range limit buttons, a removable lens collar, zoom lock ring, integrated lens hood and 9 rounded aperture blades for better bokeh. If you want these specs and quality, you have to pay for it. This is what I would like to see from Olympus, it would pair up great with my 40-150mm F2.8 Pro as I want something about this size. (and not the size/cost of the upcoming 150-400 Pro.) Just wish it was a f4 to 5.6 lens though and not a 1/2 stop slower as the lens roadmap indicates. If the new Olympus 100-400 doesn't have these features, I will probabaly buy the P/L, even though I lose the OIS. Hopefully my EM1.3 IBIS will work OK for the longer lengths.

Len's price info.

Saw this on a Czech store's website: https://www.oehling.cz/olympus-mzui...news&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2020-07-13

Google Translate shows this:

With VAT: 249 990 CZK
Czech Koruna to US Dollar: $10,665.74

Without VAT: 206 603.00 CZK
Czech Koruna to US Dollar: $8,812.87

3 year warranty.
That will be the massive 150-400 Pro lens, heavy and in white. Not to be confused with the 100-400 non pro lens which is due soon, much smaller and lighter and in black.

Weight wise this looks an attractive lens. For me the PL100-400mm is a bit too much weight to keep steady. This is partly due to a weak left hand. If the price is less than the PL100-400mm I would be interested in owning one.

43rumors repeated it. https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-leaked-images-of-the-new-olympus-100-400mm-f-5-0-6-3-is-lens/

Weather sealed? Hell yeah.
"Extensive hermetic sealing on the entire lens barrel provides the same high level of dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof performance as the M.Zuiko PRO series for peace of mind when shooting in any environmental conditions."

FYI, the Olympus is heavier and more expensive than the Panny.
