I've seen many a mention of an upcoming Olympus 100-400 telephoto lens. Anybody have any educated guesses about the price and size? I've got the Olympus 75-300, but would love a little more reach. I wonder what it would look like vis a vis the Panasonic 100-400?

About the size of the 100-400, but cheaper since it’s not pro and might not be water-resistant, dust resistant etc etc.

I'm going to wager $1500+- $200 and ~2.5 lb.
Like Sniksekk says, it'll compete with the PL100-400. I'm really hoping weather sealed; there are non-pro level lenses (in my experience the 14-150mm ii) that are weather sealed.

My guess is smaller/lighter than the Panasonic 100-400/4-6.3 because a) it's not designated as a PRO lens and b) it has a narrower max aperture.

At $1,500, I will stick with the 75-300, as "good enough."
I don't shoot LONG, enough to spend $1,500 on it.

I wouldn't be surprised. The PL100400, which I'm sure Oly is planning to compete with is that price. I think it was released at $1800.

Hmm, I didn't realize that the roadmap says that the nonpro is going to be f/5-6.3. :hmmm: Maybe I should just get the PL now and stop waiting/griping about how short 150mm is.

But you have Olympus cameras, and IS is very useful with long tele-lenses. It should be the next released lens or the one after.

Do you appreciate a smaller lens or f/4 vs f/5 when most people shoot such lenses at the long end? I think it is clever. At least would be for my purposes, but likely too expensive.

I have to agree. If it's $1,500, I'll probably pass. I really don't want to pay 1,500 for the Panasonic either. I know it's yet to be determined, but I was hoping for something a bit less than the PL 100-400.

At the risk of asking an obvious question, and I apologize if it’s been asked before, but is there any indication as to when the Oly 100-400 will be released? Given the Covid-19 situation, I understand a delay, but I’ve been waiting for what seems a long time for an alternative to the Panny offering. To many on-line reported issues (repairs, OMD mounting etc) for me to buy the Panny.

There was only a rumour that Oly will postpone a release of the 150-400mm lens in favour of the 100-400mm lens. The last year Oly released the 2XTC and fw v3 for the E-M1ii. It is very likely it could be released in June-Aug period. Price wise it might be around $1300, I guess.

I haven't seen any product delays from Olympus as the 12-45mm started shipping in volume during April.

In early April a German Olympus rep had mentioned in an interview that the 100-400 would be released this summer so I believe Olympus will stick to that.

It will be expensive and ready for the press/pros nearly in time for the Olympics.

Press and pros use a huge non-pro lens? Press maybe? Are you guys in the right post?

This is not about the f/4.5 Pro zoom, but the M. Zuiko non-Pro tele-zoom.

Exactly!
I'm really trying to get a feel from the more informed when the possible consumer Olympus 100-400 might appear? I'm closely looking at the Panasonic 100-400, but would wait a bit longer if I was relatively confident that there will be a consumer Olympus rival lens. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
