Thanks for the link, I enjoy using close up lenses like these, they keep my kit small and light, and I'm glad to see someone take the time to make a nice writeup.

For sure, if macros are your thing, these are no substitute for macro lenses. But for the occasional close up, close up lenses work better than they have any right to. I have found they pair well with specific lenses sometimes, and not others. My old Pentax s82 was great with my Canon EF 300 f4L, but doesn't work well with my current m43 zooms. However, my old Canon 450, not even an achromat, works well with both my p35-100 f4 as well as my oly 14-150 as a 2.2 diopter close up lenses, cutting the minimum focus distance roughly in half.
