Went to Ulleungdo Island which is a Korean island located in the East Sea between Korea and Japan Thursday night and came back on Sunday night. Interesting trip.

Being that it's an island and one of the main exports is dried squid which can be found all around the island, I thought there would be a terrible fishy stench. Surprisingly, there wasn't much of a smell of squid or even the sea. The waters were fantastically clean even with all the boating that is done. Waters were literally see-thru to the bottom and all of the fish in the waters were clearly visible.

A map of where Ulleungdo is located.

Because it's an isolated island, various goods are brought in by huge boats and loaded onto trucks for distribution.

One of many rock formations. The island itself was formed thousands of years ago from volcanic activity and is lava based.

I used to live in Pohang for almost 3 years. Wish I had made the trip to Ulleungdo... Maybe next time.

Thanks for giving me a glimpse of what I missed.

Did you just have the 25mm on the OM-D or did you use other lenses too?

Thank you for the photos, tyrophoto. That is an awful lot of squid, do you know what method they used to catch them?

Is the twelfth picture a cistern?

I brought only my O25/1.8 for my E-M5 Mk.II along with my Fuji X100T with the 28mm WCL-X100 conversion lens. Hence, I used the two cameras only having 28mm and 50mm focal lengths.

They use squid boats at night with extremely bright lights around the boat. This makes the squid surface to the top and they use large cages to basically just scoop them up out of the water. All around the island, there are squids skewered on bamboo and drying out in the sun. A lot of it is sold to tourists but most of it is exported.

Which picture are you referring to? The fishermen or the rock formation with the circular device?

Thanks, I see now that you had the explanation with one of your pictures. I was asking if the circular device on the rock formation was a cistern.
