I’ve been shooting the Tribute in Light since 2002. "TIL" is a yearly event held in NYC to commemorate the events of 9/11.

This year’s event was very special for two reasons. This year I had special access to the rooftop where the lights were located. I was not only able to get close-up shots of the light arrays, but was also able to lie on the ground in the middle of the light array and shoot straight up to see the individual beams of light converge. The "hair like" white streaks within the beams of light are due to the long exposure capturing birds and insects that are caught in the beams of light.

This year was also special because I got to use an early sample of the DMC-GH3 along with my DMC-G5. View the individual photos with comments on my Flickr page to see which camera took which photos.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did taking them!

    Very cool.

Now spill the beans! Tell us all about the GH3 and what you like / don't like about it.

All the positive comments are appreciated!

To be honest, the sample I had was an early sample, many features didn't work. I can see from the photos (JPG) that it does have more dynamic range, but JPG's are not the way to form an accurate opinion. Since neither Adobe support or SilkyPix were available, for now RAW is not an option for me. Noise didn't seem to be a problem.

It's definitely larger and heavier than the G5, but not in a bad way. I like the feel. The LCD and EVF are much brighter and sharper, though the color temperature seemed a bit high (bluish). This is likely a result of the early sample and menu adjustments that was not aware of. The excitement of having the site access I had was definitely competing with the GH3! It's clearly a cut above the GH2 and I suspect that anyone who holds one will want one. I understand that it will be shown at the PhotoPlus show in NYC in late October. For anyone in the area, you need to stop by and see it for yourself.

Thanks Bob. Sounds promising. A better EVF is high on my list of desires.

I wonder if I can figure out how to get to NYC that week....

Wow, did you know Panasonic/Lumix featured these on their Facebook page? I saw these there first and didn't know it was you. Congrats!
