When traveling, is it okay to keep the lens on the body of the camera or remove the lens? For example having your camera on a carry-on in a plane?
Last time I traveled I went to a beach... so I kept it on the whole time to avoid the hassle of putting it on where sand would be flying everywhere. Though I'm not sure about plane policies if they allow huge lenses on cameras?
That's the way I usually travel. My unpadded camera bag travels folded flat in my carry-on. Camera bodies and lenses (all capped) travel in cheap Walmart boot socks, also in the carry-on. They are a lot easier to pack when separated. Bodies with lenses are an awkward shape and take up more space than necessary. When I arrive at my destination I reassemble the kit, usually in a nice clean hotel room. Sometimes I'll carry one body/lens assembled in my shoulder bag.
