lost and all alone this loco finished its days at the yards of the Broken Hill Railway Station. Broken Hill is a mining town famous for the establishment of the giant mining company "Broken Hill Proprietry" or simply known in Australia as "BHP". Ore is still mined here although BHP doesn't have any operations open now.
This is the business end of an ore train carrying lead ore from Broken Hill to the smelter and port facilities at Port Augusta, South Australia.
Broken Hill a very important rail centre of early Australia. These old locos now spend there days educating the tourists.
Further south on the coast of South Australia there operates a tourist railway. This rail car operates the tourist line between Victor Harbour and Goolwa. A diesel powered train then continues through to Strathalbyn.
Peterborough (South Australia) was once an important rail head. Today only ore trains from Broken Hill and Indian-Pacific passenger train pass by. Peterborough has a fine rail museum. This tiny rail was used to service the gangs who worked on the railways, and camped beside the lines at night.
First class no doubt. Another exhibit from Peterborough Rail Museum.
