I've only just received this lens, so no photos to post as such, but here's one of the lens itself to be going on with

£350 , and that was from a reputable brick and mortar dealer as well.

It is optically and mechanically spot on, and only has some minor paint loss in a couple of the usual places.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Just purchased one of these, unused new stock together with a mint x2 Tokina converter.
Looking forward to trying it when my FD to m4/3rds converter turns up

Fantastic! Was that from Ffordes Photographic? I noticed they had a number of these for sale. I look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

In the meantime, here's a couple of more recent shot from the lens taken with a GH2

Nice to see someone more than me using a big 300mm for motorsports, good work :)

Spot on Simon, yes the 300mm and the x2 converter were both from Ffordes, I think they still have four left. As you know the lens is a beautiful bit of kit it feels so well constructed.
Thanks for posting the additional images looks like you have yours performing nicely

By the way have you a x1.4 teleconverter that you use with your Tokina 300mm or are you planning to source one? Just wondering what the best option might be?
I don't think Tokina manufactured a x1.4 or x1.5 FD converter and I wonder whether a Canon converter would fit (due to the optical elements that extend from the converter).

I also have the 2X Tokina TC, but I don't have a 1.4 TC. I haven't really spent much time looking into them, but I know Canon does an A type and a B type. I'm afraid I really have no idea what the differences between them are.

How does your x2 Tokina perform?
    Much loss of sharpness?

Hmmm. For web use its great, but I wouldn't want to be making big prints from it. You lose a lot of contrast, and if I'm being honest 1200mm equivalent focal length pushes my long lens technique to the max (and maybe a bit beyond) which also impacts IQ. I've only used it off a monopod so a tripod might make things easier.

Here's an example of a web sized image.

It's ok, just don't expect miracles!

    Cheers,

    Simon.

That shot looks pretty impressive to me, thanks Simon.
I guess my OM-D IBIS will help a little but never the less I think I'll intensify my research into a x1.4 teleconverter.

These are the three Canon Brand extenders released in FD mount:
The FD 2X-A extender doubles the focal length of any lens with a 300mm focal length or longer, including zooms.
The FD 2X-B extender doubles the focal length of any lens less than 300mm, including zooms.
The FD 1.4X increases the focal lengths of all lenses 300mm or greater by 1.4 times but it increases only one f/stop. It also extends into the mount of the lens it attaches to.

Shot a few evenings ago, E-M5, Tokina 300 f/2.8 and Tokina x2 teleconverter. From memory I think this was around f/4.
