The Olympus website says that by combining anti-shock and continuous shutter, you can make your own time lapse functionality.

But it seems that you have to hold the shutter button the whole time to make your time lapse.

Seeing that Olympus cameras have a ton of hidden features with weird names, does anybody know of a method of holding down the shutter without taping it down or buying an external release?

You'll have to buy the wired remote. It can lock the shutter button down, which would allow the continuous firing. No other way I know of to do this.
