It was a bold move by Ford to use the Mustang name on their first EV. And it makes sense that their first EV is an SUV shape, since they are so popular. I've heard good things about the car, and I wonder if it would have gotten as much attention if they had named it the Aerostar, Taurus, or some other Ford name?

Good point. I still don't forgive Ford for abandoning their sedan and subcompact platforms.

Projections are the vehicle market will consolidate around utility style vehicles almost entirely. This will (sic) accelerate with the universal transition to EV.

“Mustang” is just a label. The days of “free-roaming” horses are as done as similar driving habits. New generations think about and use vehicles in entirely different ways for even 20 years ago. Recycling names is just lazy marketing.

The fact that a camera forum now has two pages of comments dedicated to Ford's new EV suggests that naming it a Mustang may actually have worked...

At the end of the day, product branding and winning mindshare are hella expensive.

That COVID life is boring, and there's not much going on with m43 rumors, either.

To suggest publicity means you are beloved would mean that our last US president was actual super popular across all polling groups.

You know who makes competitors to this Mustang? Kia. Volvo. VW. Nobody's talking about them; they've got no product awareness in the public's eye. And you can't buy what you're not aware of. Had Ford named this vehicle something other than Mustang, it would be in the same invisible boat.

I have to agree with John that the name recognition is important. When I went and looked at the specs, the GT model goes from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. There may be a market for it among youngsters today (as there was 57 years ago went the original came out) -- and even some older folks.
