I've had this lens for a few weeks and it is the best macro I have ever used. I have the Tokina a-tx 90mm f2.5, the Lester Dine 105mm f2.8, and I've used many other macros. This lens has the best color and IQ I have seen.

I am a macro junky and I am addicted to this lens now. Just sorry I waited so long to get one.

Here are some examples from a recent field trip.

Before getting mine I was using the Lester Dine, which I thought was the best macro I had ever used. I think the Oly is equal to the Lester Dine but in the end wins out due to size and weight. I still use my Lester Dine now and then, but prefer the Oly.

Agree. Am going to save the Lester Dine for bugs where more working distance is a plus.

I just ordered mine from the Olympus store. Even refurbished, $399 CDN plus taxes was just too hard to pass up. I haven't done macro before but am looking forward to giving it a go after seeing posts like this and many positive articles and reviews :D

Wasn't it Ming who thought the O60M better than the PL45M?

    Hi guys,
I bought OMD EM-1 and tried my Lester Dine (Pentax mount).
I feel that my photographs taken with the EM-1 are worse (less sharp and darker) than with my Pentax K30...
Furthermore, the weight and bulk of the Lester Dine, the eq 210mm macro lenses (DOF even more difficult than with my DSLR) get me discouraged ; )
I'll probably get the Zuiko 60mm (and maybe ring flash, LED or Metz MS 15-1)
Do you have Lester Dine shots on your Mu-43 (and/or comparison with your others bodies) ?

I have both Olympus and Bokina. I like both but 30 years old lens has no issue and I believe will last for another 30 years if taking care of it. But I doubt that electronic parts in Olympus 60mm will last for 30 years though.

Great shots! I just reordered the Olympus macro. What technique did you use for these flower closeups? Are they handheld?

Check out this Sample Image thread - https://www.mu-43.com/threads/16580/

I used to have the Kiron version of this lens, it was an excellent performer but shooting handheld I found the weight awkward to manage along with a flash rig. The Oly 60mm is wonderful and lightweight, although as someone mentioned earlier I miss the extra working distance from the 105mm...

Datagov: wonderful pics! Handheld or tripod? Just got this lens myself but haven't had the opportunity for a serious outing yet. Can't wait!

Thanks. I shot them all handheld with a yongnuo 560 III flash in bounce mode to diffuse the light.

I find the Lester Dine to be very sharp, and actually there is only the smallest difference in absolute sharpness between all my macro lenses at apertures f2.8-f11. After f11, the O60 shows diffraction quite a lot, whereas the Bokina is still sharp to f22 and with good flash lighting even to f32. The Canon fd 80-200 f4 L isn't really a macro lense, but it has a macro mode that is 1:3 and @ 200mm you can get pretty close. All my manual lenses have their pros and cons and I will still use them. But the O60 is so light and easy to use.

Here are some photos I shot with the Lester Dine

I've a feeling I could hand you just about any macro lens and you'd get stunning images out it!

The Olympus 60mm Macro is also a great portrait lens.
It was my usual long portrait prime lens before I get the Oly 75mm.
I think its an underrated lens.
