OK, all of you who are jonesing to get your mitts on an X-100, I KNOW you're out shooting with some sort of 35mm equivalent prime on one of your cameras or taping a zoom to that field of view. Just to get your brain ready. No? Well, I am. Here are a few from a walk around town today with the gf1 and the Olympus 17mm. Please add your own, if you're being similarly stupid with anticipation...

And who knows, maybe this will serve as a rain dance and bring enough cameras in this alleged first shipment so all who want one will get one (yeah, I know, but what's wrong with trying?).

I'm not looking forward for the X100, but I'm learning the Oly 17 mm f/2.8, so I'm kind of 'in the boat' this spring :

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/gi9JSbSJ5kybhOBftNIIdQ?feat=embedwebsite"> bicycle_2. (I suspect the locking device is worth at least twice the price of the bicycle).

  4. It's probably a better idea to collect some really bad 17/2.8 photos here, lest this be known as the "Why do I even need an X100 when my m4/3 camera does it just as well for less money" thread.

Here's some "The X100 can do it cheaper" shots. Shot with a Leica M9 and Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4.

A few more, experimenting with using some of the more extreme pre-sets in Silver Efex Pro (version 2) as a starting point - some of these ONLY seemed to work with the crazy high contrast - others it was just a choice. Framing one day in bright sun with the evf (admittedly the relatively crummy one on the gf1) and one day in duller light with the lcd, I seem to prefer NOT sticking the camera up in my face anymore, except when I'm using a longer lens. Which means the X-100 OVF is gonna have to be a bit of a life changing experience for me to want to keep that camera - unless something else about it is THAT good.

But I KNOW (reminded again) that I love the focal length / field of view...

The subtle hints of green of the 3rd one work very well indeed. Love it.

Amin - that first one is one of the funniest shots I've seen in quite a while! And, yeah, I suspect a D700 was a bit of overkill for that one. And the second one is just a wonderful shot - I'd have guessed THAT one was the D700 with the quick response it must have taken.

Mauve - thanks. I'm finding I'm really enjoying features in Silver Efex version 2 that I didn't think I'd use at all. Selective color is something I generally haven't liked since its generally been used as an all or nothing proposition. But the slider in that program allows for just the hint of a color to be brought up and I find that really helps SOME shots a lot. The challenge, as with the super high contrast settings, will be to use it appropriately. Which probably means using it too much at first as I figure it out and then backing into appropriate use...

Ah if only Oly had released just that, a digital back for the XA... I'd be first in the waiting line. Your picture shows the incredible qualities of that wonderful 35mm f/2.8 lens.

See what great photographs can be taken with a single focal length?

I'm enjoying all the pictures on this thread very much.

As an aside, Ray, I saw your photos on Flickr last night and didn't pick up on the use of the color green in the grass over there, but I do see it here much more easily. That one in particular is one of my favorites of your recent additions.

  12. I decided to try a 30-something millimetre combination which cost me less than the cost of a brand new X100; a Canon EOS 50D + Canon EF 20mm f2.8 USM (~ 32mm). This is the first time I have really used this camera properly after having used one extensively on a few holidays in 2009 and 2010. I love my E-P1 but I was reminded that this Canon is truly MY camera. It's big and heavy but it fits like a glove and does all the things right that the E-P1 does wrong. It's funny how it took a thread about a Fuji on a forum dedicated to Micro 4/3 that got me to use my Canon again

Nic - I don't think I'd be comfortable shooting in crowds with such a big camera, but you clearly 'see' very well with it! I like the third and fourth the best of these and the fourth most of all. But its gotta stay in color. Despite my general preference for B&W, some shots only work in color and that looks like one of 'em.

    -Ray

  14. Thanks Ray, I agree with you 100% about number 4. I tried it in B&W out of habit, but it just wasn't happening. As much as I like this camera it is definitely NOT comfortable to use as a street camera (in the sense that you are carrying around something akin to a bazooka).

  15. I dare say the X100 could do it somewhat more discretely.

I read in another forum that the first shipment of X100s were shipped to major US dealers April 7th.
