The street during the Democratic National Convention

All of these photographs were shot using the Panasonic G3 with the 14mm lens, I shot these during the Democratic National Convention and have waited until after the election to post anything. I didn’t want to start any trouble on the site, and checked with Admin before I posted any shots. If there is a problem with this posting, then the string will be removed and that is why I didn’t post it under street photography. Next month the Republicans will also be here in Charlotte, and I hope to get some pictures from that party as well. The only reason for posting is to share my love of shooting the street, and this was like shooting fish in a barrel, they were packed that tight on the sidewalks. My focus was set to nearest subject and that really works for me most of the time.

First is a pedicab working its way through a croud.

This was the only time I saw the mounted police. I was taking another picture and they came up behind me. I saw them just in time to get out of the way.

Our light rail system was packed. If you wanted a seat you better get on at the end of the line like I did.

<object width="700" height="487"><param name="movie" value="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="i=I00009jsR2XXdWJ4&b=1"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="true" FlashVars="i=I00009jsR2XXdWJ4&b=1" allowfullscreen="true" width="700" height="487"></embed></object>

MSNBC was broadcasting live from a location near the convention center. Here a woman is using her cell phone to take a picture.

<object width="700" height="487"><param name="movie" value="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="i=I0000ViqCU5pOODE&b=1"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="true" FlashVars="i=I0000ViqCU5pOODE&b=1" allowfullscreen="true" width="700" height="487"></embed></object>

This crew is at all events uptown. No one seems to be paying any attention. The 14mm worked really well when you were in these tight spaces, and all of these are taken with the focus set to nearest subject.

<object width="467" height="720"><param name="movie" value="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="i=I0000YsQtqXl1AZI&b=1"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="true" FlashVars="i=I0000YsQtqXl1AZI&b=1" allowfullscreen="true" width="467" height="720"></embed></object>

People walking down the street trying to see the latest news.

<object width="700" height="487"><param name="movie" value="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="i=I0000QCaj_d5qBhw&b=1"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="true" FlashVars="i=I0000QCaj_d5qBhw&b=1" allowfullscreen="true" width="700" height="487"></embed></object>

Don’t ask. I don’t know why this is going on, but as I walked up they were both talking about how much they each could press.

<object width="467" height="720"><param name="movie" value="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="FlashVars" value="i=I0000TgunajBjbhs&b=1"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.photoshelter.com/swf/imgWidget.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="true" FlashVars="i=I0000TgunajBjbhs&b=1" allowfullscreen="true" width="467" height="720"></embed></object>

Remember, this is about street photography and nothing else. Some here might be stuck on using the center spot for focusing, and might want to try the closest subject. Someone else might not have thought about the 14mm as a street lens. Remember, everything about 3 feet and beyond is going to be in focus with that lens, and it seem my copy is as sharp as my 20mm lens.

I stayed as far away as possible from uptown that week, heard it was a zoo :). Great pics, my favorite is the one of the mounted police.
