The Speed Booster / Focal Reducer image thread

Hi everyone! Let's see images taken with either Metabones Speed Booster or other types of focal reducer.
I have not found an official image thread for one so I will start.

I took this today with my Minolta MD 50mm f1.4 with Speed Booster, making it 35.5mm f1.0, taken wide open with ND filter. Really like the 3D pop in this image!

Here's one with my Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f1.4, with speed booster becoming 41mm f1.0, an obvious choice for portraiture. Shooting portraits with this thin DOF is quite difficult especially combined with manual focus.

I tried using a Canon 50mm f1.2 in a .71 reduction unit and only got f1.2. How do you get F 1.0 ?

Not sure what brand you were using but Metabones gives you one whole stop.

This one is a Minolta MD Rokkor 85mm f1.7 = 60mm f1.2. Shot at f2.8 = f2.0

That's not how these things work. The aperture in the lens doesn't change. F1.2 is still f1.2. The reduction is the result of the speed booster's lens. It has the effect of concentrating the image circle from m the FF lens into a MFT image circle rather than just cropping out of the center. That makes the image brighter and the lens function like a faster aperture. The lens is still just a f1.2 lens performing like it's supposed to. The "boosting" that occurs behind it is separate from the lens.

Just multiply your aperture setting by .71 or whatever the factor is for your booster to calculate the effective aperture, or just assume one stop improvement- f2.8 becomes f2, f1.4 -> f1,etc....

This one was taken with an E-P5 with a Mitakon Turbo focal reducer and a Bower 14mm f/2.8 (equivalent to 10mm f/2)

Be careful with using the word "effective". The word "effective" implies to a lot of people that it is somehow not real like it is often used in connection with crop factor: "effective focal length" followed by the inevitable "effective aperture". But the combination of a 50/1.2 lens with a 0.71 speedbooster is a 35.5/0.85 lens. Nothing more, nothing less.

When I bought the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 to mate with the SB, I debated whether to buy the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 instead. Your photos look great and, it seams, would have been a very good choice.

In the photos posted, did you have to adjust perspective?

I have been looking at purchasing a metabones speedbooster but am not clear from the information I have read if this will also work with native 4/3 lenses, I have the three F2.8 zooms 7-14,14-40,40-150 olympus and am not sure if this would allow me to stop these down. Also has any one used it with a macro lens?Any thoughts or info? Thanks in advance.

Hi, no, they need extra room between the lens and body (extra flange distance), so only with lenses in the mounts offered, such as Canon EF or FD, Minolta SR/MD, Pentax m42 or PK,...

Thanks for the bad news ,lol.I really had high hopes that I could incorporate it into my kit, I guess I need to see if there is a workaround that I could come up with.I am wondering if a extension tube would work?
