Recently acquired this lens which needs a lens shade as do most wide angle lenses and acquired the shade. Now I understand that the most economical place to put threading is around the elements only but this lens (and most likely others) mechanical zooming is in the same place. I'm terrified that I'm gonna whack out of whack the focusing mechanism with a bit of a knock on the shade. I gotta be super careful of rough handling the shade. Plus the lens doesn't recede to infinity when the camera is turned off! Not nice Olympus, not nice. image1.JPG image2.JPG

Anyone mess their lens up by mistakenly banging too hard on the shade?

This lens really isn't designed to use a shade - same problem with the 20mm pancake, the front element moves during focussing. I think all the other AF lenses in the system have fixed front elements so don't have this problem.

Ok, lens not designed to be used with a shade. So, has anyone out there crafted their own safe shade for this lens?
