Thank you Mark, sounds like you had a nice (long) drive around when you were here. Actually there are two Åkerby in Uppsala County, this is the one more far away closer to the coast (I guess that's what made it a good place to gather to emigrate in boats to America) so its about 80 km away, still quite close though :) The exact location is here https://www.google.com/maps/place/Åkerby/@60.5065357,17.6905137,9.5z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x466089dc6540c983:0x417969bf60e81a92!8m2!3d60.4156336!4d17.7650968

That makes a lot more sense to me now. I was wondering what would be the reason for people gathering there before emigrating to America. Thanks.

I think these qualify for this thread, as the "pond" was formed to assist/control the flow of water to the former woollen mill further downstream, sadly, no longer in existence.
It's now a tranquil spot for picnics and such-like.

Had to take a detour this morning on my work drive. They say the detour may last until October. The road looks like a promising mine for rural images, so I expect tp post more in this vein. This was a quickie I caught while cars behind me were blowing their horns. Quite a diverse cacophony erupted. Didn't sound anything like roosters so it kind of broke the mood. (Apparently commuters don't get the laid back country lifestyle)

The detour on the drive to work today produced these...

The back story is that I saw the bears the other day, but when I drove by it was just before dawn and the light was terrible. I made a mental note where they were and then promised myself to get an image if I went by again later in the morning with better light, which I did today. When I pulled over I noticed a stump in the middle of the field but the top of it was moving. That part of the stump turned out to be the immature Eagle. So today turned out to be a twofer, as they say.

A beautiful frosty and light fog start to the day, so decided to head off and see Mt Roland from some of my favourite spots around the rural area I live in.
And it didn't disappoint.
Mount Roland (4047 feet, 1233 m) dominates the landscape around Kentish area of Tasmania
It's moods are forever changing and is warmly regarded by many

After 4 weeks of rain in our region, it is finally dry and sunny.
The farmers work day and night to harvest the spring grass.

I went to an "antique power event" yesterday, with 60-100 year old tractors and sawmill equipment. This is an annual event (except for 2020). The main power source is a wood-fired steam engine (looks like 1920's vintage to me) driving the sawmill via a long belt.

The crew had quite a few guys even older than me, turning logs into lumber and making sawdust.

It all looked very unsafe under current standards, but that's how it was done in the olden days. The scrap wood went into the boiler to drive the saw.
